Roadmap
Everything under Works today is something a lesson does, start to finish, in a fresh folder on Linux x64.
Works today
- Install Nextweb with one command.
- Get a free license by email the first time it starts.
- Install WordPress by name. The PHP and MariaDB it needs come with it.
-
Deploy a WordPress site with four commands:
deploy, commit, apply, andverify. Each site gets its own copy of WordPress, its own database, and its own address on your machine. -
Find your way around with
helpand Tab, see what's running withservice list, and open Nextweb in your browser withui open. - Package an application of your own. You describe it in one small file, build it into a single package, publish it, and install it by name. The package is encrypted (how package DRM works).
- Share a package. An organization owns it, and the servers you link to the organization install it by name. A package you publish as yourself installs only on your own license.
- Deploy a Node.js application of your own as a website with the same four commands as WordPress.
Try it in the first lesson, then package your own in the second.
Being built now
Started, not finished. No lesson covers these yet.
- Windows and FreeBSD. The program is on the download page. PHP, MariaDB, nginx, and the lessons are still Linux x64.
Not yet
- A public catalog, where anyone can publish a package and anyone can install it.
-
Deploying a package that is neither WordPress nor a Node.js application of
your own.
deployknows those two kinds of site today. - macOS. There is a Linux arm64 build of the program, but no packages for it yet.
- Automatic HTTPS certificates. A site answers on your own machine, and you put a proxy such as nginx in front of it to take it public.
- Searching the catalog from the shell.
- A license check your own programs can call when they start, in any language, including compiled programs.
- Keeping PHP source protected after install, with an established PHP encoder.
- Starting without an internet connection. Nextweb checks its license each time it starts.
